Orville Redenbacher's Kettle Korn: Yes, another food post
No that is not a misprint, they actually mispell corn on the box to create the Kettle Korn alliteration. Also, yea, another food post because I love food and this is my blog so who cares. No one reads this anyways. I found out about this particular kettle corn through a late night movie night with a friend. While watching poorly thought out horror movies my friend threw the kettle corn in the microwave, little did I know I was about to taste something better than mediocre. After having no patience, a burnt tongue, and now an empty bag I asked what I had just eaten and where I could get some.
I was told it was sold at our local Walmart and was only $4. I then proceeded to leave and go buy two boxes for myself. Our Walmart only sells the pop up bowls but the popcorn comes in normal bags too. The pop up bowls are convenient for if you actually share this with someone else, and if you don't want more dishes. The popcorn itself is the perfect combination of salty and sweet and definitely the best of any of the DIY kettle corns I have had. However, be sure to read the ingredients list if you have any allergies! This product contains low amounts of sucralose as real sugar wouldn't fair well in the microwave. I have a slight allergy to artificial sweeteners but I don't have much of a problem with this product unless I really overdo it and eat a couple of bags.
The product comes with the standard "this side up, heat for 2 minutes" instructions which you need to follow obviously. I have found this product to burn easily so you'll have to find a time that is perfect for your microwave. My best suggestion? Listen for when there is a couple of seconds in between the pops and then remove it, you're popcorn will most likely be the best it can be. Then let it cool (I never do), sit it upright, and peel off the red film to make your bowl.
As with any microwave popcorn there are the odd un-popped kernels at the bottom but there weren't anymore than usual and it didn't bother me. Ultimately I fell in love with this product, and if you like kettle corn and don't want to wait around for state fairs to get some, try this! It's quick, it's easy, and it's good enough that I can eat a whole bag... alone.
You can purchase this Kettle Korn from Amazon if you cannot find it at local retailers. I also found out that this same brand makes a caramel corn I am going to be sure to try.
So how about it, going to try some Kettle Korn?
