Now! Enough back story, let's get onto the point. Anyone with darker skin knows a nice purple lipstick will look fabulous on them, but the paler girls I know all seem to generally avoid that color unless it happens to be October. Purple and orange just so happen to be my two favorite colors so I decided to ignore the stigma and try it anyways.
The two I picked up were:
Kate Moss for Rimmel London in 04 and Wet and Wild 919B
Left Wet and Wild 919B and Kate Moss line for Rimmel London 04 My apologies ahead of time for the poor lighting, it's rather dark out today! |
Swatches
The top one is Wet and Wild and the bottom is Kate Moss for Rimmel London |

I didn't like the Wet and Wild 919B at all so I thought I would talk about that one first. I got this for fifty cents (normally only $1) on a buy one get one half off sale at Rite-Aid (a drugstore). The other Wet and Wild lipstick I got was from a slightly different line and normally cost $1.99 but I feel that made all the difference it was smooth and nice, I quite liked it. This one however was not smooth, nice, or easy to apply in any way shape or form. It stained me as soon as it went on which made it even more difficult to apply because any marks outside my lip were still visible after I tried to clean them off. The lipstick itself has a thick consistency, which felt uncomfortable to put on. The color payoff was fantastic for fifty cents, and had it been a more normal color (easier to apply) it would have been wonderful! On another note, the shape of the top is sort of flat which made it impossible to put on smoothly and I think a proper application would require a nice thin lip brush.
The dark purple color in the tube is almost exactly what you get on your lips, only slightly more patchy (most likely due to the difficulty in applying) and that is the downfall for this lipstick. I imagined it would be slightly more sheer and workable for a daytime look however I could never wear this lipstick out and about unless it actually were October.
I apologize for my horrid appearance, i'm a bit ill and not much in the mood for getting properly dressed or putting on makeup! |
Kate Moss for Rimmel London (Picture at the end)
The Kate Moss for Rimmel London in 04 however was a completely different story. I absolutely adore this line from Rimmel and I only wish there were more colors. I believe this line is usually about $5 in my area, however this was on clearance and I payed about $1.25! This applied smooth and silkily, and felt even a bit moisturizing on my lips. I was able to remove any extra marks with my makeup remover easily. The pointy shape made it a breeze to both line and fill which I find the easiest way to apply bright and dark colors. I'm not the best at getting a good lip shape when applying lipstick and really must invest in some lip liners but the point on this was so lovely I don't feel I would even need a lip liner for anything more than keeping the color from spreading. The color payoff is nice, and looks pretty, it's a much more wearable color than the wet and wild. It's a nice berry, it's still a dark purple, but it feels more natural in a way.
I plan to wear this when classes start on Wednesday I liked it that much! I definitely suggest this line, if not this color to anyone looking for a nice drugstore lippy! I can only hope the clearance price means some new colors are coming in to compete with my favorites!
Again, sorry about the appearance |
So let me know what you think, would you dare to wear dark purple in your daily life or is it more of a night out on the town sort of color?

P.S. My apologies for being away so long. I've been a frenzy getting ready for classes, working my butt off, and buying textbooks! I promise to try and update more often and I even have one more post planned for tomorrow!
